FOR ARCHITECTS & PLANNERS
Designed to integrate cleanly into public space, our systems give planners a defined, standard-compliant building block. The hexagonal architecture combines social training dynamics with a highly space-efficient footprint — and every station is built from high-grade steel to a serial production standard.

The hexagon system: social dynamics and space efficiency in one structure.
Why outdoor fitness for architects & planners?
For planners, an outdoor fitness station is only useful if it behaves like a defined, standard-compliant building block — not a one-off site construction. BARbara is exactly that: a serial-production steel structure with a documented specification, defined safety distances and a predictable footprint that slots cleanly into a master plan.
The hexagonal architecture is the core idea. It concentrates six exercise fields around a single social centre, so a very high training density is achieved on a minimal footprint — a decisive advantage when public space is scarce and every square metre has to be justified.
Who is it for?
Space & requirements
The compact hexagon footprint is designed to integrate into existing green space, plazas and residential developments. Its space efficiency makes it realistic even where a conventional linear fitness trail would never fit.
As equipment for adults and teenagers, BARbara is built to DIN EN 16630 — the standard defines the required safety distances and free-space envelopes, giving planners defined values to work with. A certified acceptance inspection is required before opening, followed by regular visual checks and an annual functional inspection.
Typical use cases
Wittenberg — municipal calisthenics
A BARbara installation realised as part of municipal public space in Lutherstadt Wittenberg — a reference for how the hexagon system integrates into a town setting as a standard-compliant, low-maintenance building block.
Read the Wittenberg case studyCost factors
A single BARbara installation costs around €15,000 — fully ready to use, including groundwork and installation. Material variants: hot-dip galvanised, galvanised plus powder-coating in a custom colour, or premium stainless steel V2A. Because the product is standardised, planners get reliable figures for budgeting and tenders early in the process.
There are no moving parts and no mechanics, so ongoing maintenance is minimal and the steel is 100% recyclable — a clean figure for sustainability reporting and life-cycle assessments.
How planning works
- 1Specification & fitWe provide the specification, footprint and safety-distance data you need to place the module in your plan.
- 2Material & finishChoose the variant and, if required, a custom powder-coat colour to match the surrounding design language.
- 3Delivery & buildSerial production means short lead times; groundwork and installation can be handled by a local GaLaBau firm.
- 4AcceptanceCertified acceptance inspection to DIN EN 16630 before the station is opened to the public.
Frequently asked questions
Which standard does the equipment comply with?+
BARbara is built to DIN EN 16630, the European standard for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment for adults and teenagers (distinct from the DIN EN 1176 playground standard). The standard defines the safety distances and free-space envelopes planners need to design around.
How much space does a station need?+
The hexagonal footprint is deliberately compact and concentrates six exercise fields around one centre, so training density is high relative to the area used. We supply exact footprint and free-space dimensions for your layout.
Can the finish be matched to a design concept?+
Yes. Three material variants are available — hot-dip galvanised, galvanised plus powder-coating in a custom colour, and premium stainless steel V2A — so the station can be matched to the surrounding architecture.
What is the maintenance requirement?+
The structure has no moving parts or mechanics, so it is low-maintenance. Beyond the regular visual checks and annual functional inspection required for public installations, there is little ongoing effort.
Is the material sustainable?+
The station is built from high-grade steel that is 100% recyclable, which supports sustainability reporting and life-cycle assessment for public projects.
