BARbara exists because nothing on the market fit the bill. The GhettoWorkout e.V. club in Dessau — active in calisthenics since 2013 and three-time host of the German Championships — could not find an outdoor system that was right functionally or on price. So they built their own, after surveying calisthenics clubs across Germany about what a station should do.
Everything on one compact footprint
BARbara is arranged as a hexagon, inspired by the honeycomb. That single design decision is what lets it bundle a complete training system into a small area. The information sign maps six exercise fields onto the structure:
| Field | Exercise | Element |
|---|---|---|
| A | Squats | Wall bars |
| B | Pull-ups | Pull-up bar |
| C | Assisted pull-ups | Low bar |
| D | Dips | Dip bars |
| E | Push-ups | Parallettes |
| F | Knee raises | Snake bar |
Built by athletes, not catalogue vendors
Every bar has a purpose — no gimmicks. That focus fixes the exact failures common when playground makers chase the calisthenics trend: wrong ground clearances, dip stations set too low, pull-up bars too narrow, elements that block free swinging. BARbara uses athlete-correct dimensions, grip widths and bar lengths.
Guidance for everyone
Each sign carries a QR code linking to training guidance across four levels — beginner, advanced, 50+ and pro — plus videos of individual exercises. Someone with no calisthenics background can arrive and start straight away.
Engineered to last, easy to live with
- DIN EN 16630 compliant, with a certified inspection before opening
- Three material variants: hot-dip galvanized, galvanized + powder-coated, or stainless steel V2A
- Vandalism-resistant: recessed bolts, a massive foundationed structure, force-distributing hexagon geometry
- No moving parts: minimal maintenance, no electricity, no staff, usable 365 days a year
- Simple to install: no special machinery; a works yard, club or regional landscaper can build it
- Fast to deliver: produced in series and held in stock
The community effect
Because the hexagon gathers 8–12 people in one spot, training becomes social rather than scattered — ideal for group and circuit sessions, and a natural meeting point in any public space.
